A musical adaptation of Spider-Man, which features music by U2's Bono and The Edge, will open on Broadway next February.
The production, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has been directed by Julie Taymor and adapted for the stage by scriptwriter Glenn Berger. Castings have yet to take place for the musical, although Taymor has held readings with actors Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood. Taymor told Reuters Wood was expected to play Mary Jane Watson. The role of Spider-Man has yet to be cast. Speaking earlier this year, The Edge said the production was in “a pretty good state”. The guitarist added that the “core” of Spider-Man's music would come from "a rock'n'roll band”, rather than a full orchestra. The production will open on February 18th, with previews commencing on January 16th. U2's last contribution to theatre came in the 1990s, when The Edge and singer Bono wrote songs for a Royal Shakespeare Company production of A Clockwork Orange As previously reported, U2 are due to release they new album, 'No Line On The Horizon', on March 2nd.
