Stone Roses Spike Island Gig Inspires New Film

January 23, 2011
Stone Roses Spike Island Gig Inspires New FilmA gig by The Stones Roses has inspired a new film about council estate hopefuls in an unsigned band.

The Manchester band, fronted by Ian Brown, performed at Spike Island near Widnes, Merseyside in 1990.

The gig came at the height of the band’s fame and was watched by almost 30,000 people.

The as-yet-untitled film is being made by Tom Green, who wrote Channel 4’s Misfits, and was written by actor Chris Cohill, reports BBC News.

Green called the movie “a raw and truly authentic rites-of-passage story” that is “full of the humour, heartache, dreams and fears of being part of a brotherhood of mates, and set to the greatest record ever written”.

He added: "The Roses died in '95. This is the resurrection."

The film will include cameo appearances from a host of stars who have yet to be revealed.
