Kraftwerk Joined By British Olympic Cycling Team At 3D Manchester GigJuly 3, 2009
Kraftwerk were joined by Great Britain's Olympic cycling team at a very special 3D show in Manchester last night.
The German music legends were performing 'Tour de France' at the Velodrome when the athletes came on and hurtled around the 250 metre track. Naturally, this was rapturously received by the sell-out crowd bedecked in 3D glasses. A fan told BBC6music: "I think I died and went to heaven when the cyclists came out for Tour De France. That’s the best track and action I've ever seen working together - it's my gig of the year." The sell-out show was the opening spectacle of the annual Manchester International Festival and marked the first time the pioneering Dьsseldorf group brought their 3D set-up to British shores. The hit-heavy set featured all the classics like 'Man Machine', 'Radioactivity', 'Autobahn Express' and 'Computer World'. Kraftwerk play a spate of shows throughout Europe in July and August before returning to the UK for their headline slot at Bestival on September 12. Sounds like it's a show not to be missed, even without the cyclists. (by Scott Colothan) See also: Kraftwerk, Massive Attack To Headline Bestival (27.02.2009)
