The Who Unleash Hits Medley At Super Bowl XLIVFebruary 8, 2010
The Who unleashed a medley of their classic hits as they performed at the Super Bowl half-time show in Miami on Sunday.
Appearing in the round at the Sun Life Stadium, original members singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend were joined by a backing band. The British band's 12-minute set kicked off with 'Pinball Wizard', which was followed by edited versions of 'Baba O'Riley', 'Who Are You?' and 'See Me, Feel Me'. The Who wrapped up their set, which was accompanied throughout by an eye-catching lights show, with 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. The hit - and Townshend's infamous windmill guitar - left fans inside the stadium ecstatic, but US critics were split over the performance. The Dallas News said Daltrey "sound strained” while Townshend “looked and sounded desperate”. The Super Bowl is regularly the most-watched programme on US television and in recent years the half-time show has featured The Rolling Stones and Prince. It also typically provides a huge sales boost for the headline act. Last night's Super Bowl was won by the New Orleans Saints who claimed an unlikely 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
