Radiohead Deny Snubbing Glastonbury Over Environmental Issues

March 13, 2008
Radiohead Deny Snubbing Glastonbury Over Environmental IssuesThom Yorke has hit out at The Sun newspaper for taking his words out of context when the paper reported him as saying that Radiohead weren’t playing Glastonbury because of environmental issues.

The singer denounced the report in a lengthy post on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space and said that the main reason why they were missing Glastonbury this year was because they were doing their own UK tour at the same time.

He writes: “I mentioned that we were not playing Glastonbury this year but were doing our own shows in London. Not because of transport issues but because the festival goers at Glastonbury were more than likely sick of the sight of us... it felt a little early to be doing it again, we felt as if we had only just played there.

“Unfortunately, as is the way with such newspapers my words were taken out of context and implied we were not playing Glastonbury because there was no public transport infrastructure. Well that's bollocks. But these things spread.”

Yorke continued that he has spoken to Michael and Emily Eavis on the matter and has apologised for the misunderstanding.

The organisers also outlined to him the measures they have already put into place to encourage revellers to use public transport to travel to the festival. The full blurb on which can be read here.

Excitingly, Yorke ended the post by hinting that Radiohead could play Glastonbury in 2009.
