Michael Jackson Doctor 'Will Not Surrender Today (February 5)'February 5, 2010
Michael Jackson's doctor will no longer surrender today following an apparent breakdown in negotiations between prosecutors and police, it's been reported.
Dr Conrad Murray had been expected to hand himself over to authorities to face a charge of involuntary manslaughter. But a dispute is now said to have arisen over how the physician should be taken into custody. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles District Attorney wanted Dr Murray to surrender on his own accord - but police wanted to arrest and handcuff him. The confusion arose just hours after a spokeswoman for Dr Murray said he was willing to attend the arraignment at 1.30pm local time on Friday. "We know he's going to be charged with involuntary manslaughter and we are ready with a counterargument," Miranda Sevcik told the Associated Press. "He's not guilty - that's our argument." Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest at his rented home in Los Angeles on June 25. In August, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office ruled his death as homicide "due to lethal levels of propofol". Dr Murray was acting as the singer’s physician ahead of his planned comeback gigs. He has denied any criminal wrongdoing.
