Michael Jackson To Launch Broadway Thriller MusicalJanuary 27, 2009
Michael Jackson is working on a musical adaptation of the video for his landmark hit, Thriller.
The production, which will run on Broadway, will include songs from both Jackson's 'Thriller' album and his 1979 record, 'Off The Wall'. Producer James Nederlander said the musical had been given Jackson's full authorisation and would involve the singer “in every aspect of the creative process”. Jackson's spokesman said: "The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theatre and musical excellence, so let the music begin." Jackson's video for 'Thriller' was unveiled for the first time in 1983 and sees the singer transform into a werewolf following a date at a cinema. The video is said to have cost $500,000 to make – about ten times the cost of a normal music video at the time. As previously reported, another musical based on Jackson's career, Thriller – Live, opened on London's West End last week. Despite the appearance of Jackson's brother, Tito, at the opening night, the production was made without Jackson's involvement. Earlier this month month, Jackson's spokesman revealed that the singer had moved back to Los Angeles in order to revive his career.
