John Lennon Memorial Concert Announced In LiverpoolSeptember 21, 2010
A memorial concert marking the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death will take place in Liverpool later this year, it's been announced.
The gig, at the Echo Arena on December 9, will also serve as a late celebration of what would have been the former Beatles' 70th birthday. The singer, who would have celebrated his birthday next month, was shot dead in New York in 1980. Performers for the concert, which has been backed by Lennon's half sister Julia Baird, are due to be announced shortly. Baird said: “This will be a very emotional evening, not only for our family, but I’m sure it will be a very special night for the other performers on stage and for the audience, as we all unite in our love for John and his wonderful, immortal music.” All proceeds from the concert will go to the Alder Hey ‘Imagine’ Appeal, Radio City’s Cash For Kids and The Mathew Street Festival.
