Coldplay And Jay-Z Cover Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson At All Points WestAugust 3, 2009
![]() Beastie Boys had been due to headline the festival last weekend, but were forced to pull out after member Adam Yauch was diagnosed with cancer. Jay-Z, who took the band's place on the bill on Friday, opened his set with a cover of 'No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn'. He also paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson with a brief rap over the Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back'. On Sunday, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin performed a solo piano version of The Beastie Boys' 'Fight For Your Right (To Party)' during the band's headline slot. The group also played a special version of the King of Pop's 'Billie Jean'. Following Coldplay's set, Martin described All Points West as "the strangest-smelling but best concert we've ever played". As previously reported, Yauch is due to undergo surgery on a cancerous tumour in his left salivary gland. (by Jason Gregory) See also:![]() |
