Jay-Z Slams Noel Gallagher In New Album Track With Kanye WestAugust 7, 2008
Jay-Z previewed a song from his new album last night (August 6th) during a surprise appearance alongside Kanye West in New York – and the lyrics appeared to directly attack Oasis' Noel Gallagher.
West, who was performing his second night at Madison Square Garden as part of his Glow in the Dark tour, began singing the song alone before Jay-Z emerged onto the stage. The rapper then sang the lines: "That bloke from Oasis said I couldn't play guitar/Somebody should have told him I'm a fuckin' rock star", before mocking the Oasis track 'Wonderwall'. "Today is gonna be the day that I'm gonna throw it back to you,” he sang. Jay-Z's reference to Gallagher follow the controversial comments the guitarist made prior to the rapper's performance at the Glastonbury festival in June. The unnamed track, produced by West, is the first time fans have heard material from Jay-Z's highly anticipated "Blueprint 3". West also told the crowd that he was producing songs for the rapper's album. Until last night's concert, their had been much speculation about who would produce the record, with Timbaland suggesting recently that he was behind the whole production. Jay-Z appeared to play down Timbaland's comments last week, telling Rolling Stone that he would “let the music dictate the direction”.
