Hand Me Downs.

I didn't know what was the matter,
i didn't know where to start.
i'd lost my sense of energy
and id lost my sense of heart.

In the midst of lost and loneliness
in a rose hue picture frame,
passion and objectivity
were calling out my name.

To aid this new confusion
i was having too much fun,
in the gloomy pubs of Brixton
and the fleeting autumn sun.

I was running far too quickly
that my legs could not keep up,
i fell spread eagle on my face,
dignity bit the dust.

And the silence was frozen...

I woke up far too early,
i was sleeping far too late.
the alarm clock was redundant
and the mattress forgot my frame.

A broken television,
so to drown out all the trains.
to drag me from self pity,
united by fate.

I'd learnt all of my lessons,
from vagrant, household names,
i found some friends amongst the shelves
so here's to Dave and Jay,

I'd learnt more from transit vans and Bragg,
than i'd ever learnt in class,
a lifelong education, from punk rock 101.

And the silence was broken...

through ups and downs,
through lost and founds,
your voice will never let me down.

. . .

There was a one bedroom flat at the top of the road
With fresh running water and a built-in commode
And there were kids on their porches with fags lit like torches
I though this will do for me

So we crammed in the back dancing ten to the foot
As the smoke filled the air we were misunderstood
And the beats kept dropping the foundations like bombs
Oh we knew that it couldn't be long

And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine

There was a five bedroom house by the foot of the field
With a well-mannered dweller quite substantial in build
And there were barb wire fences and piles of expenses
And Lawns mown impressively

As they sat in the back and they started to eat
Raise a glass to the host and his prosperity
Though the corks kept popping and they struck up the band
The foundations seemed sunk in the sand

And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine

And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody got out alive
And though the building collapsed with the night
Everybody's doing fine.

you could feel the tide
turn with the drop in the baseline.
You could feel it going up a gear,
well we're young and we're here
and we're going to see the night through.

you're never too old,
to let the beat take hold
and throwdown like a child.
So lay down your pride,
lets dance tonight.

1-2-3-4 if this is your song then this is our dancefloor.

I was hypnotised,
the baseline, the drumbeats,
your movement were magnetised.

There was a sense of confusion,
in the power of the movement.
But we're going to see the night through.

you're never too old,
to let the beat take hold
and throwdown like a child.
So lay down your pride,
lets dance tonight.

1-2-3-4 if this is your song then this is our dancefloor.

The weight of semantics,
met dancefloors gymnastics.
Motion kinetic, breeds passion magnetic.

So here to the 45's our friends and the nightlife.

As phosphorus fills the air,
i could only stand and stair,
at the figures in your family tree.
the hurricane hit the town,
the branches cracked and splintered to the ground.
thats when he said...

'my son, one day all of this is yours'

teary eyes surrounding me
and all was there for them to see.
between the lines bureaucracy,
digressing from hypocrisies.

'my son, one day all of this is yours'

When i was feeling indifferent
and acting so belligerent I,
broke down. The sight bought the tears to my eyes.
When i was acting indifferent,
you said i could be significant I'm,
so glad that you opened my eyes

'my son, one day all of this is yours'

Queen For A Day

'Have you heard the news?' He said.
'No what's the news?'
He said something inconceivable
with an appetite for more.
It was simplified and pasted
from that waste of space, publicity whore.

It went from Chinese whispers,
to fiction, to gospel truth;
in a matter of seconds,
as the ground swell grew,
'there was no time to check the facts,
there was no room for turning back' He Said,
with a look in his eyes we've come to despise.

All this maths and comprehension,
i wish we'd paid some more attention to the detail,
its imperative for us to move on.

All this maths and comprehension,
i wish we'd paid some more attention to the detail,
its imperative for us to move on.

Their eyes met in the back of the room,
between the lights and camera of the human zoo.
An amulet for a vegas bride,
queen for a day, tonight is your night.
This is your moment you can taste i so good.
So good riddance to the lot of you,
to the lot of you.

All this maths and comprehension,
i wish we'd paid some more attention to the detail,
its imperative for us to move on.

All Falls Down

You only reap what you sow.
Stick to the things that you know.
Stick to the people you know.

As when it all falls, when it all falls down,
who else is gonna be around,
when it all falls, when it all falls down,
who else is gonna be around you?
who else is gonna be around.

We had mighty armies
and there were biblical seas,
my whole life flashed before me,
so break forth and break free.
We had mighty armies
and there were biblical seas,
someone had to be jonah,
i guess it had to be me.

As when it all falls, when it all falls down,
who else is gonna be around,
when it all falls, when it all falls down,
who else is gonna be around you?
who else is gonna be around.

. . .

Where Will You Stand?

No matter where you go,
it always looks the same.
The view is overcast,
as the pavements wash with rain.
The irony was lost in the 25 year space
between New England and St Patrick's Day.

So head forth to the runway, if its easier to run away.

When it all comes back, it all comes back
to haunt you in the night,
where will you stand?

Like a 5 year old boy,
in his fathers best suit,
no matter how you dress him up,
he's still a child to you.

Reminiscent of the wolf,
your dressed up to the teeth.
you're a walking cliche
from the pages of history.

So head forth to the runway, if its easier to run away.

When it all comes back, it all comes back
to haunt you in the night,
where will you stand?

we'll realise some day
that we're all out of a runway,
so we'll build another runway.
if its easier to run away.

When it all comes back, it all comes back
to haunt you in the night,
where will you stand?

Stitch By Stitch.

If i put my heart on trial,
picking apart this cloaked denial.
right from the cuff down to the seam,
stitch by stitch exposing me.

This is raw,
i used to feel invincible.
if this is war,
i guess its still worth fighting for.

The dust descends on the mornings news.
i beat myself up black and blue.
i need to know how you feel,
i need to feel something real.
Be it joy or more unhappiness,
there's a moment here to steal.

This is raw,
i used to feel invincible.
if this is war,
i guess its still worth fighting for.

Was the tension in the silence of congeniality?
or was it something far more awkward
that could never be believed.
in the midst of indecision,
like a compass lost at sea.
i was looking past the answer,
staring right in front of me.

This is raw,
i used to feel invincible.
if this is war,
i guess its still worth fighting for.

The uprising.

This is the sound,
its rising into the foreground,
its calling out
all the antiquated rules.

can you feel the embers rising?
fires are blazing,
tongues keep talking,
what's ours to win,
is ours to loose.
Lets sharpen wits
and gather knowledge.

One by one we'll start this army,
march the streets they'll scream in envy.
you can't push us, push us underground .

This is the sound,
its rising into the foreground,
its calling out
all the antiquated rules.

And though the ground swell is growing,
i admit we're not all knowing,
and though we're carving solutions.
with hope for resolutions we stand.
To the punks and the protests
and those fighting for progress.
The inconvenient truth,
is that the power's with you.

This is the sound,
its rising into the foreground,
its calling out
all the antiquated rules.

can you feel the embers rising?
fires are blazing,
tongues keep talking,
what's ours to win,
is ours to loose.
Lets sharpen wits
and gather knowledge.

One by one we'll start this army,
march the streets they'll scream in envy.
you can't push us, push us underground.

This is the sound,
its rising into the foreground,
its calling out
all the antiquated rules.

The Plot.

It was the best of my intentions
in the first week of spring
to set the standard for the year.

I redefined my expectations,
through calculated moves.
well, i had nothing more to loose.

Forget self pity,
i think i've finally found the art
of resetting without falling apart.

ignore the rain clouds,
this is the clearest skies i've seen,
all my worries are cast off to see.

i feel so alive.

it was coming to November
and my confidence was shot,
i was searching for the plot.

i used gunpowder and reason,
oh hell it was the season
and im not selling myself short.

Forget self pity,
i think i've finally found the art
of resetting without falling apart.

ignore the rain clouds,
this is the clearest skies i've seen,
all my worries are cast off to see.

i feel so alive.

Take anything you want,
i dont know if i'll be back
please take anything you want
i dont know if i'll be back
oh please take anything that you want

and when i return i'll be a better man than the one that left

Forget self pity,
i think i've finally found the art
of resetting without falling apart.

ignore the rain clouds,
this is the clearest skies i've seen,
all my worries are cast off to see.

i feel so alive.

Morning Light.

The race was won, the race was lost.
it's not a sprint it's a marathon,
we must survive at all cost.

The whispering, the cold dead sights
its cruel mistress forgetting,
its lover, forgetting it's child.

interjections are lost and found,
from the streets to the underground.

A passing thought, a passing glance,
forget apprehension remember we all have a chance.
to save ourselves, to save our hearts.
From the plight of rejection we'll never be stronger apart.

interjections are lost and found,
from the streets to the underground.

As the night draws in and the moon hangs high.
Two lovers descend and wait 'til the morning light.
As the tree tops flirt with horizon lines,
wrapped up tight in each other, 'til the morning light.
