Editors Explain Bladerunner Influenced New AlbumJuly 27, 2009
Editors frontman Tom Smith has explained the sci-fi influences behind their new album 'In This Light and On This Evening'.
Smith told BBC 6 Music said the album was the sound of the band trying to “tame” machines such as Bladerunner and Terminator. “Hopefully it doesn't sound clinical and emotionless like a lot of electronic records do,” he said. “Hopefully it's warm and breathing." Smith added that the album, produced by Flood, marked an obvious change in direction from its predecessors – Editors' self-titled debut and 2007's 'An End Has A Start'. "It is different from our previous records, there are things it has in common with the first album,” he added. "I see both those records as a progression from the last. This one isn't." Editors are expected to release their third album ahead of a show in Birmingham on September 10. The group are then set to embark on a nationwide UK and Ireland tour in October.
